Principal Consultant & CEO
Amina Barhumi is a dedicated servant leader with over nineteen years of experience in transforming organizational culture, building and engaging loyal audiences, and mobilizing communities around civic justice. As a seasoned nonprofit leader, Amina has cultivated a formidable network to empower impacted communities, leading social justice and democracy efforts. She has led and provided guidance on over 70 successful advocacy campaigns and programs, significantly boosting community engagement and building grassroots power.
Past clients include the Muslim Civic Coalition, Young United Souls for Revolutionary Action (YUSRA) Organizing, Kayla’s List PAC, and leaders and board members of leading civic justice, social impact, educational institutions, and community centers. Most recently, Amina served as the Executive Director of the Council on American-Islamic Relations of Ohio (Columbus & Cincinnati), where she led the organization from crisis to stability, steering it towards becoming a leader in civil rights and advocacy efforts for the Muslim community in Ohio.
During her tenure, Amina positioned impacted community members as key authorities on Islamophobia among Ohio's social justice organizations, strengthened alliances with statewide organizations, and amplified community narratives and advocacy efforts. She also led the organization through a hate attack, restoring community trust, retaining the entire staff, and increasing overall support and engagement.
Amina's experience as a practitioner, transformational leader, and thought partner gives her a rare comprehensive perspective on how to plan and execute impactful strategies and programs to benefit both emerging and established nonprofit organizations. She has strengthened civil rights work in Ohio through collaborative campaigns and partnerships, facilitating and convening partnerships that resulted in increased community initiatives, resource sharing, and building grassroots civic power to combat Islamophobia.
Amina leverages her extensive background and formal training in strategic planning, program implementation, and evaluation to support social impact organizations and campaigns. She holds a degree in Business Administration from the University of Illinois at Chicago and is currently pursuing a degree in Nonprofit Management and Policy from Syracuse University's Maxwell School of Citizenship and Public Affairs.
Amina is deeply committed to the American Muslim community, and as a proud Chicago native, she seeks to drive change from Illinois—a state with the largest per capita Muslim population in the nation—to the broader national stage.
She believes that the first step toward creating impactful change is a conversation. Amina invites you to join her in unraveling and troubleshooting the best next steps for you and your organization as you work together to make a difference.
